Let's stick together
Whereas walking sticks in the past were regarded as a status symbol in addition to their essential function, they are now often primarily a functional item that the user does not necessarily carry with pride. There are more users than one might at first think. The HET LABO designers’ co-operative therefore feels it is high time to rethink the walking stick and give it some new connotations. Together with Design Flanders, it is bringing a very special collection of walking sticks to the LET’S STICK TOGETHER exhibition. Domestic and foreign designers and artists are presenting their vision of the walking stick. The visitor also gets to see very traditional examples alongside industrial products, in sticks ranging from the functional to the purely conceptual, presented visually or in 3-D installations. Altogether, over 100 works are collected from approximately 80 designers and artists, who have - often for the first time - given some specific thought to the walking stick for this exhibition.
