Concept - Energy through smart design
A lamp which opens like a beautiful flower when a family's energy consumption has been low for some time, or a clock which displays a household's energy consumption in real time – just two examples of the prototypes on show in Visual Voltage.
Visual Voltage gives us an insight into energy and, in a broader sense, sets out to generate greater interest in energy consumption and environmental issues. The exhibition gives space to three different research workshops from the Interactive Institute in Sweden, which combine the disciplines of art, design and energy. Visitors are invited, through a number of prototypes, concepts and installations created by well-known Swedish designers and artists, to experience energy in a variety of forms and give thought to energy consumption.
Visual Voltage shows that designers and artists also have an important role to play in generating awareness and in debates over essential issues such as sustainability and energy consumption.
Many of the works offer truly innovative ways of making consumers more aware of their own energy consumption, so that ultimately they can begin to use more energy efficiently.
Under the auspices of the Interactive Institute a number of Sweden's best-known artists and designers have been brought together in interdisciplinary research cooperation projects involving engineers, technical know-how and expert knowledge of the living environment. The exhibition features work by Steven Dixon, Nils Edvardsson, Tina Finnäs, Front Design and Tore Nilsson.
