In the context of Europalia Brazil, Design Flanders is presenting a selection of products designed by the famous Brazilian designers Fernando & Humberto Campana for Edra, as well as the Alegria - Design Contemporâneo Brasileiro exhibition, curated by Tulio Mariante.

The Campana brothers and Edra. A selection.
Since the start of the 1980s, inspired by Brazilian street life and carnival culture, Fernando (b. 1961) and Humberto (b. 1953) Campana have been combined found objects, such as wood waste or textile offcuts, or lookalikes, with advanced technologies, forming a powerful and expressly Brazilian approach to design.
Since the 1990s they have been designing for manufacturers as O Luce, Fontana Arte, Capellini, Lacoste, Vitra and last but not least the Italian furniture company Edra, appealing frequently to the creativity of the Campana’s.

ALEGRIA_BRAZILIAN CONTEMPORARY DESIGN
Brazilian design has its roots in a blooming culture in constant transformation. A mixed culture that carries the signs of many civilizations but has an inherent capacity to cope with adversity in a joyful and creative way. This exposition is about this joie de vivre: it brings into focus design products that express this peculiar attribute through surprising shapes, vibrant colors and inventive solutions, that are not confined to humor, but that transmit a feeling of well-being and delight. The exhibit is also an illustration of the unfolding Brazilian design that meets today's demands from more than 190 million people. It is increasingly recognized in Brazil as an essential tool for the development of products for its domestic market, which expands at unprecedented speed. The designers in Brazil serve not only a small-scale craftsman production, but also a sophisticated industry of global technology. This exhibition brings to Brussels Brazil's original and innovative design, conceived in a country that is leaping forward with optimism.
Curator: Tulio Mariante.
