Henceforth, eight products may bear the exclusive Henry van de Velde Label

The Henry van de Velde Label is a quality label for Flemish design. Selected products may bear the label for as long as they are in production. The label recognises the authenticity, innovation, creativity, finish and added value of the product and guarantees its quality for the general public. There is no prize money attached to the granting of this label, it is a reward for the vision of the designer and the producer.

The jury’s task was to make a rigorous selection from the 114 products that competed this year for a label. After two selection rounds, it was finally decided to award a Henry van de Velde Label to:

1. Doutreligne 7, grand piano, Eric Dumortier GBO Design for Pianos Maene
2. Deseo, room controller, Klaas Arnout and Sandra Maes for Basalte
3. BuzziBooth, acoustic cocoon & workplace, Alain Gilles for BuzziSpace
4. Multiple, side table, Raphaël Charles (Raphaël Charles Studio)
5. Scotty, built-in LED spotlight, Couvreur & Devos for Modular
6. Knijper, clothes peg, Enthoven Associates for Moerman
7. Cyclo, carpet, Christophe Vervaeke for Papilio (Prado Rugs)
8. Hopper, table, Dirk Wynants (DW²) for Extremis

These eight products may henceforth bear the label for high-quality design when they are marketed. Naturally, the label is also a promotional tool for designers and companies, who can now proudly proclaim their quest for originality and perfection.

The Henry van de Velde Labels jury always consists of professionals with extensive experience and expertise. This year’s jury consisted of Nicolas Block (Business Manager, King George), Hilde Bouchez (Lecturer, Sint-Lucas Department of Architecture), Laure Capitani (Coordinator, Walloon-Brussels Design/Mode), Anne Decruy (Interior Designer and Business Manager, ’t Casteelken), Chris De Roock (Director, Economics Department of Fedustria), Klara De Smedt (Manager, Designcenter De Winkelhaak), Liesbeth Longueville (Design Coordinator, Flanders InShape), Giovanna Massoni (Freelance Design Journalist and Consultant), Pierre Misseghers (Business Manager, Cargo and Organiser, Ouverture), Fátima Pombo (Lecturer, Sint-Lukas Brussels and K.U. Leuven), Dany Snokx (Project Director, Humin and and Lecturer, MAD Faculty), Wouter Ulburghs (Innovation Staff Member, OVAM), Kurt Vanbelleghem (Curator and Publisher) and Guy Vermeirsch (Business Manager, ’t Huis van Oordeghem). Johan Valcke, Director of Design Flanders, was the Chairman of the jury.

The Henry van de Velde Labels will be presented at the design event of the year, i.e. the presentation of the Henry van de Velde Awards & Labels in the De Schelp chamber of the Flemish Parliament. This festive ceremony will take place on 17 January 2012. The Henry van de Velde Awards & Labels will be presented by Kris Peeters, Minister-President of the Flemish Government. The presentation is an exclusive event for invited guests only. Thereafter, the general public may view the labelled products in the accompanying exhibition in De Loketten, the prestigious exhibition hall of the Flemish Parliament.

The Henry van de Velde Labels 2011 is organised by Design Flanders, in collaboration with the OVAM (Public Waste Agency of Flanders) and the Flemish Parliament.
